Who you are dealing with
There is no call centre, no salesman on commission, and no crew of strangers. Urban Green is a team of five, led by Simon Hitchins, with 27 years' experience in the trade. We stay small by design, so the person who quotes your extension is the person who builds it.
About Urban Green
Simon has spent 27 years in the trade. He started on site and has worked across Leeds ever since: extensions and structural work, walls and paving, and the stone work he is known for. That work extends beyond back gardens: an academy school engaged him directly for the reclamation of its Victorian stone, a project that required months of council approvals to complete.
Two people work alongside Simon, and all three are City & Guilds and NVQ qualified. We do not chase volume: taking on too much lets the finish slip, so we would sooner decline a project than rush it.

How we quote
We survey the work with you, then put one written price on the whole project. Here are four practices, and what each one protects you from.

Every guide to hiring a builder advises you to ask for the same few documents. Here they are.
Insurance
Public liability cover of £5m, employer's liability cover of £10m, and contract works insurance on extension work. Ask to see the certificates and we will have them in front of you without delay.
Guarantee
A 10-year structural guarantee on extensions and structural building work: foundations, load-bearing walls, structural masonry and steelwork. A 5-year workmanship guarantee on paving, walling and landscaping: footings, sub-base, mortar bed and drainage. Both are provided in writing, dated, and issued at handover.
The engineer
We do not produce the drawings ourselves. We build to the architect's design and the structural engineer's calculations, and we can recommend practices we work with regularly.
The contract
A written contract is in place before any work begins: the scope, the price, the payment stages, and how changes you request part-way are handled. Nothing is agreed on a handshake and a number said aloud.
The company
Urban Green Masonry & Landscapes is the trading name of SH Building & Landscape Ltd, company number 16540612, registered in England & Wales. You are welcome to look us up on Companies House before you call. VAT registered.
After we finish
Snagging is part of the service, not a favour. You speak directly to Simon, not a call centre, and we will inspect within three to five working days, same day if it is urgent, such as drainage or water ingress. If the fault is our workmanship, we make it good at no cost.
Where we work
We are based in north-west Leeds and will travel roughly an hour for the right project. If you are in one of these towns, we are likely already working near you.
