What the work involves
Block paving is groundwork with a decorative surface on top. The build is the same for a driveway, a path or a patio; only the depths change.
The majority of our block paving work. Herringbone bond laid on a deeper sub-base, as it carries the weight of vehicles rather than foot traffic.
Side paths, bin stores and the walkway beside the house. A shallower build-up than a driveway, with the same haunched edge courses.
Blocks also suit patios, particularly small or awkwardly shaped areas where large flags would require extensive cutting.
One thing we do not offer is laying blocks over an existing concrete or tarmac surface. The reasons are set out in the questions further down.
Materials
Most clients choose blocks on colour and pattern, which is understandable: that is the part you see. These are the materials that determine whether the surface is still flat in twenty years.
Guaranteed for 5 years
A 5-year workmanship guarantee on the build-up: the excavation, the compacted Type 1 sub-base, the screeded laying course, the edge restraints and the drainage. Blocks sink and work loose when those are skimped, not through any fault in the blocks, so that is the work we guarantee. The manufacturer's product warranty on the blocks themselves runs alongside it.

A cheap block installation over a thin base is worse value than gravel laid well. If the budget will not cover the excavation and sub-base, we will say so.
