What the job involves
Block paving is a groundworks job with a jigsaw on top. Same build whether it's a drive, a path or a patio. Only the depths change.
The bulk of what we block pave. Herringbone laid on a deeper sub-base, because it's taking the weight of cars rather than feet.
Side paths, bin stores, the strip down the side of the house. Shallower build than a drive, same haunched edge courses.
Blocks work on a patio too, especially a small or awkward-shaped one, where big flags would mean cutting half of them.
What we don't do is lay blocks over an old concrete or tarmac surface. There's a straight answer on why in the questions further down.
Materials
People choose blocks on colour and pattern, which is fair enough, that's the bit you look at. These are the materials that decide whether it's still flat in twenty years.
Guaranteed for 10 years
A 10-year workmanship guarantee on the build-up: the compacted Type 1 sub-base, the haunched edge courses, the screeded laying course and the drainage. Blocks sink and work loose when those are skimped, not because the blocks were wrong, so that's the part we guarantee. The blocks carry their own manufacturer's warranty.

Alternatives
Blocks suit most Leeds drives, and they're the wrong answer often enough to be worth saying so.
Better when: you want a clean, large-format look for a patio you'll sit and dine on. Wide flags mean far fewer joints to weed and a calmer finish. Blocks give you more lines.
The trade-off: flags don't lift and relay as easily as blocks, so getting at a drain underneath is a messier job.
